Exciting new product!

We are proud to announce our latest addition – the Louisiana 1 shower bath.

This generously sized bath offers a step through curved glass door with matching shower screen, and stylish good looks. It has been redesigned for 2017 with improved panels.

The Louisiana 1 is available in 1700 and 1500mm lengths, and with right or left hand entry.

It can be factory fitted with a warm air spa for added luxury and therapeutic properties.

Made by hand in the UK, this bath is wider than our other shower baths, so provides additional room in the shower area.

Each bath is made to order, so delivery is 3-5 weeks from order.

We hope you’ll like this exciting new addition!

A simple adaptation providing significant benefits

Another interesting installation. This customer wanted to replace their existing bath with a walk in bath with glass door (the Cirrus Glass), a glass shower screen and a bath shower mixer with hand held shower plus overhead soaker. Minimal disruption was to happen as the parents are both elderly and vulnerable, so work was coordinated to start when they would be away for the day. The job was completed and provides a fresh new bath and shower experience with greatly improved safety.

Molly Bather

Can you fit a Molly Bather belt bath lift to a corner bath?

Sometimes it takes a bit of ingenuity to solve a problem!

Mrs E was struggling to use her corner bath. She’d had a fall and her family was nervous about her safety. They called one of the large national bath lift companies and were advised to change the bath so that a belt lift could be fitted straight across. This would have meant major disruption as all of the walls tiles and floor tiles would have had to be renewed. They were not very happy about that!

Practical Bathing was introduced by a friend, and we went to take a look. The Molly Bather seemed to be the most appropriate model for the situation. It was a bit tricky as the corner bath means the lift and fixing bracket have to be at an angle, and the bath panel bulge would push the lift away from the bath rim. However, nothing is impossible! We took detailed measurements and drew up a plan so that a special wall bracket could be made. The lift was fitted with extended “bumpers” so that it would avoid the bath panel but reach the bath rim.

The lift was installed very carefully to get the angles correct, and adjusted to height. It was then fully tested before demonstrating to the customer.

Mr and Mrs E were delighted to have achieved their aims without remodelling their bathroom, and saved a considerable amount of money too!

If you need a bath lift, call Practical Bathing for advice. We won’t let you down (well, only into your bath of course!)

Out with the old – in with the new!

Paul | Nov 25 2016

Mr M was having trouble using his existing shower bath. The bathroom was immaculate, and a sympathetic result was required. We removed the bath and filled in the exposed areas with border tiles and new white tiles chosen and supplied by the customer. The floor tiles also needed to be patched in, and the customer was able to supply these too. In order to achieve a low step height we used the Impey Slimline easy access shower tray. We installed a waste pump in the adjacent garage, and ran pipes in matching ducting around the tray. Ramps were fitted to aid wheeled access, and the enclosure fitted. Mr M is now able to enjoy safe and pleasant showering.

chromotherapy lighting

Chromotherapy lighting – what is it?

Chromotherapy lighting has become very popular recently. An LED  light with variable colours is positioned under the bath water. It shines through the water, making a beautiful illuminated effect. The energy efficient LEDs are safe, inexpensive to run and they do not get hot.

You can enjoy your chromotherapy lighting bath in a variety of ways – to enjoy deeper relaxation, to stimulate the mind or to revitalise the body. Different colours can often have a bearing on our mood. This connection is supported by studies that have identified links between the use of colour and different mental states. Light therapy is used as a treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder. Interior designers often use colour and lighting to change the ambience within a room.

Practitioners of ayurvedic medicine believe the body has seven “chakras”, which some claim are ‘spiritual centers’. New Age thought associates each of the chakras with a single colour of the visible light spectrum, along with a function and organ or bodily system. According to this view, the chakras can become imbalanced and result in physical diseases, but application of the appropriate colour can allegedly correct such imbalances.

Quite apart from the therapeutic effects, chromotherapy lighting can also make an attractive contribution to the aesthetics of your bathroom. The system can be made to display a single colour, or to cycle through seven different colours in sequence.

Solar Bath Trimming - Solar high level bath

Solar bath trimming to length – how best to do it?

A customer recently called asking about the Solar bath, which was ideal for her requirements. The problem was, she did not have sufficient space between the two walls to fit the bath. Well, that problem was easily solved! Solar bath trimming can be successfully achieved down to only 1600mm if necessary. This lady had 1640mm available, so it was perfectly feasible to trim the bath to size.

The customer carefully measured and double checked the dimensions. But who would be responsible for cutting the ends off this expensive new bath? We recommend that such work is done at the factory where we have the correct machinery and skilled staff to ensure the desired result.

We instructed the factory to shorten the bath equally at both ends, and fit reinforcing battens under the cut ends. The front panel was trimmed to match the bath.

All of this was done at no extra charge to the customer. You can’t buy that kind of service on eBay!
